Port Townsend Shipwright Co-op Member, Jim Lyons, continues to travel to Portland and guide the all volunteer crew on the restoration project of the PT658 Heritage Boat.  The planking on the exterior of the vessel has begun.  Patterns are made for the new planks that will extend back to mid ship on both sides.  Starboard side planks are now complete.  Jim plans to return this week to fit planks and begin cocking the seams.  This vessel is double planked with 3/4 inch thick planks on the surface and a thin skin on the underside.  This keeps weight down and the horsepower up.  The vessel has 1500-2000 horsepower and is built to be a light weight vessel.

The interior bottom framing has been replaced.  The new chine log replacement is twenty feet and installed for the shaft log and starboard engine.  There are three engines total, one on port side, starboard, and middle.  New spar stringers with blocking now run the full length of the boat as well.
