Pete Rust
Growing up on Vashon Island, Pete was always near the water. He attended university for architecture, got into commercial fishing, and then went to the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding and graduated in 1995. He has been working on everything from small craft to large sea-going boats using his skills in fine interior joinery, structural woodworking, and hardware fabrication. Well versed in the diversity of all parts of construction, Pete was another welcome addition to our member owners in 2005. Pete is an avid drummer, snowboarder, and skateboarder. He also loves playing soccer and coaching youth teams.
David Griswold
David (a.k.a. Griz) became a member owner in 2000 after running his own boat repair business. He graduated from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in 1994, and for many years he taught rigging workshops at the school and during the Wooden Boat Festival. He is skilled in all forms of boat construction: woodworking, welding, traditional and modern rigging. He is often accompanied by his sidekick, Ellie (the cattle dog), who always enjoys a good scratch. In his off time, Griz enjoys paragliding and flying his 1978 Bellanca Citabria airplane. His commitment to detail in his work also shows up in his skill as a flamenco guitarist.
Chris Sanok
After several years of cruising and teaching sailing in the Sea of Cortez, Chris sailed to Port Townsend via Kauai and Prince Rupert. He started working on boats in 2002, quickly earning his ABYC certifications in Electrical, Corrosions, and Marine Systems. Chris’ expertise in commercial fish boat three phase systems, custom monitoring and control circuits, and lithium battery management systems has made him a valuable member owner since 2017. Chris was instrumental in our partnership with Cape George Boatworks for the new construction build, ROBERT LEWIS. With a 144-volt lithium battery bank, electric propulsion, a programmable logic control, and a distributed power network, this boat is on the cutting edge of yacht electrical technology. Chris is an avid skier, paddler, and scuba diver. He recently completed his first 100-mile ultramarathon.
Todd Lee
Todd has deep roots on the Olympic Peninsula as a fifth-generation resident. Living around the water naturally led him to begin working on boats. Since 1982 he has worked all along the west coast, including Alaska. He primarily focuses on mechanical and marine diesel components. Todd became a member owner in 2007, bringing with him extensive knowledge and training. He is ABYC certified in Marine Systems and has had training on Volvo Penta, Cummins, and John Deere engines. Making sure a client is confident in their boat is one of his main focuses. Todd enjoys gold prospecting, hunting, and fishing when not at work.
Anders Kulin
As a second-generation shipwright, boats are intertwined throughout Anders’ life. Growing up playing in the boat yard with his siblings, he began working on boats at an early age. His career started at his parents’ rigging loft. Afterwards he worked for other small shipwright businesses and then onboard Chevron’s Domestic Tanker Fleet. In 2018 he became a member owner, bringing his knowledge in rigging and systems and his ABYC certification as a Marine Electrician. Anders strives to improve a boat’s efficiency, making changes based on the boat’s use and feedback from owners. When not working out puzzles on boats, Anders can be found outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Chris began working as a shipwright in 1993 and joined us as a member owner in 2003. His experience in all types of systems and his ABYC Marine Electrical certification has led him to developing alternative energy solutions with lithium battery technology and solar power. He also has extensive hands on involvement with corrosion corrections. Chris has logged many miles in open ocean, cruising and delivering boats. His favorite place to cruise is British Columbia with his family and dog.
Jeff Galey
After graduating from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in 2007, Jeff started working as a shipwright, quickly gaining experience in many trades. He’s a skilled metal fabricator and an ABYC certified Marine Electrical technician and brings his mechanical and woodworking skills to us. Jeff became a member owner in 2010. Jeff has also been involved with many of our projects in Hawaii and Alaska. He is restoring his 1948 wooden hand troller, ISSWAT. Jeff mountain climbs extensively and volunteers with Olympic Mountain Rescue and with our local fire department as an EMT.
Arren Day
Moving to Port Townsend in 1997 started a new chapter for Arren. He spent three years working as an apprentice luthier, and his skills in fine woodworking were in demand on boats. After fishing in the summers and freelancing in the winters, Arren opened his own shop. In 2014 he became a member owner. His attention to detail has served him well in becoming a master machinist and shipwright. When not working on boats we commonly see him restoring his old tractors and trucks. He also enjoys hunting, practicing archery, fly-fishing and working on his property.
Matt Henderson
Matt’s all-encompassing skills in electrical and systems are instrumental in our shop. He maintains certifications with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), ABYC, Furuno, Simrad, Garmin, and Raymarine. A recent job he is proud of is the complete re-wiring and updating of the electronics on a 1954 Ed Monk designed 42’ yacht. Matt finds great accomplishment in upgrading a boat’s electrical system to the most recent marine standards. During his time off he frequently can be found outdoors, hiking in our local national parks or diving in Puget Sound.
Tim Hoffmann
Growing up between Hawaii and Alaska, Tim was constantly around boats. He spent several formative summers fishing. In 1987 he moved to Port Townsend and opened his own shop. Tim used his extensive experience in metal and wood structural repairs to repair many work boats along the Pacific Northwest coast. Tim recently joined our ranks and became a member owner in 2018. He is an adventurous spirit who enjoys hiking, hunting, fishing, traveling, and dancing.

In Alaska working with sled dogs when Tim Lee became interested in traditional wooden boats and the West Coast fishing fleet. Wanting to learn more, he moved to Port Townsend and graduated from the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding in 1990. After working in Port Townsend’s boat yards, he and his wife moved back up to Alaska in their live-aboard folkboat where Tim worked at the Sitka Shipwrights Co-op. In 2000 he returned to the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, but this time as an instructor, where he taught for 13 years, eight of those as chief instructor. In 2014, Tim became a member owner with us, and his experience in all aspects of new construction and restoration has been valuable. When not at work, Tim is often working on his own sailboat, LITTLE PACKET, a 33’ sloop built in 1959.
Brad Seamans
A 2005 graduate of the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, Brad has spent many years working on all types of boats, most notably ADVENTURESS, the historic LADY WASHINGTON, and WESTERN FLYER. Brad had the unique experience of partnering with a master corker who passed down the traditional skills. Brad became a member owner in 2019. He is adept in all aspects of boat building, expertly planking and framing vessels as well as focusing on the detailed finish work. After work he can often be found on the soccer field or watching a game. He also enjoys playing stringed instruments.
