John Zimmer is spending many weeks seamlessly caulking Destiny.  He explains that the process is not about strength, but rather about feeling.  As John works, his intent is to create a certain tension within the structure of the boat.  This feeling of tension determines how he fills the space between planks.  First he uses cotton in the smaller gaps, followed by oakum.  Every boat is different in it’s inherent design and every plank has a variation of curves.  John must remain focused on the complexities of his work in order to accomplish this most important task; a watertight vessel.
