Co-op Member, Ben Tyler, designed and fabricated a hinged anchor mechanism for Seaducktress at Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op. The owner of the vessel, Peter Geerlofs, explained to Ben what he was looking for in a new anchor roller system. What Ben fabricated is unlike traditional systems, is easier on the windlass and simpler to pull up anchor. The size is an 88 lb system of polished stainless steel (316L), double the size of the original anchor system.
The hinge anchor mechanism articulates. The pins and barrels must be flush for the roller to move smoothly between the cheek pieces. The chain will move through to the idler roller which changes the angle for the cathead.
