This 28′ William Garden designed tug boat was built in 1961 by Al Jacobs in Lake Union and served many years as a log patrol boat on the Snohomish River for Weyehauser, a timberland and wood products company based in nearby Seattle and Tacoma.
This boat has what is known as a “tunnel stern” which can be quite odd looking to the eye, where the planks back aft actually flare up and create a space for a larger propeller. This was commonly built on boats made for shallower waters like in the Columbia River and Bristol Bay.
MAGGIE B (ex CHIPPEWA, ex TYEE) is also a multiple champion tug boat racer and was the 2015 Olympia Harbor Days mascot!
We have put several new planks on as well as refastening and recorking the bottom, a custom welded aluminium framework for a full boat canvas cover made by Best Coast Canvas, some sistered frames in the stern, and recorking the deck as well.
We are excited to be a part of this boat’s history and keep her in great shape for her family.
