This beautiful seventy year old vessel,  Muskrat, was hit while docked in Kodiak Alaska last fall.  In route to Seattle for boat repairs, the Skipper Greg said they were pumping 200-400 gallons of water per hour.  Chuck, the owner of Muskrat, was referred by another fishing vessel to the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op for boat repairs.  When Chuck called and spoke to Martin Mills, they were just off Whidbey Island.  Martin met them in Port Townsend Bay by rubber boat.  They discussed the potential boat restoration project and the next day Muskrat was hauled out for repair.  Now, over five months later, Muskrat is back in the water.  During the last few weeks, Muskrat‘s new fish holding tank was lifted onboard and a fresh coat of paint was applied.  A few more last minute details and this vessel will be on it’s way.

Transporting this massive holding tank into it’s proper location on deck required much communication and coordination.

Shipwrights in Alaska

Six shipwrights from Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op traveled up to Alaska this month. Five were working on the Randi Lynn in Kodiak; steel plating, hull work and re-bolting skegs.  Chris Chase was also in Alaska to look at a future project with another vessel.

Tri-umph

Rod Miller had his gillnetter, Tri-umph, hauled out at Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op this spring.  Now it is back in the water and the shipwrights are running sea trials today.  Martin Mills, managed the project installing 3 new engines, 355 horsepower Cummins engines that drive Hamilton jets.  With the engines
