Brian Gibson purchased Insequent, the 50 foot Ocean Alexander, in February.  He brought the vessel to the Shipwrights Co-op to prepare for transportation back to his home in Australia.  In preparation there were mechanical repairs, NAIAD, electrical rewire, and specific Australian voltage requirements installed.

Ben Tyler installed the roll stabalizer fins.  This mechanism prevents the boat from rolling in all situations.  It was installed beneath the shower, which was removed and then altered slightly to make room.

In the next many weeks, four fuel tanks will be replaced and two new John Deere engines installed.  The engine room will be reconfigured.  Todd Lee is managing the mechanical aspects of the project and Chris Brignoli is managing systems.

The owner Brian Gibson would like better fuel efficiency and the ability to monitor fuel consumption for longer range cruising.  This project will continue into the winter.  Following completion, Brian plans to cruise down the coast, to Hawaii, French Polynesia and eventually will transport the boat back to his home in Australia.  He has been living onboard mostly, doing some of the boat work himself since February.  Brian said that most of the work being done now are things that would have to happen in the next 5-10 years anyway.  He is enjoying being present during this project, being able to see first hand the progress and be apart of the decision making.

Brian has been on and off boats all of his life.  Work and family preoccupied much of his time for many years.  Now retired and with two daughters in college, he is looking forward to the adventure of long range cruising.  He refers to the vessel as his “retirement cottage”.  Insequent is an Ed Monk design.  It was built in Taiwan in October 1991.  Only 98 of this hull were built.  Brian loves the layout due to it’s comfort and privacy.  Even with 6 or 7 people onboard, Brain explains you can always find some privacy, which is essential for long trips on the open ocean.
