One of Port Townsend Shipwright Co-op‘s longest-standing clients, Nancy and Pete Hardy, brought their Canadian trawler, the Sandra Jean II, in for new steel fuel tanks this spring.   Both Nancy and Pete Hardy are captains for whale watching business in Friday Harbor.  They have been gradually restoring the Sandra Jean II for the past 12  years.  During this time, the Shipwrights Co-op has done extensive planking, reframing, bulwarks, deck work, deck and beam repairs.  Pete and Nancy have kept to the vessel’s original trawler design.  Both actively participate in the restoration project and live aboard the Sandra Jean II.  They documented the recent fuel replacement project well with great photographs, saying they “really enjoy being …in the company of these craftsmen and messing with this boat.”  Thanks Nancy and Pete for sharing these wonderful photographs!

Its nice to see her being restored, this was my grandpa & uncles (Archie & Gary Russell) fish boat for many seasons. It’s named after my aunt Sandra, hence the Sandra Jean II.
Now that I found this info I may take a trip down to see her and take some pictures. Thanks for all the wonderful work, she looks amazing!

My father and brother Archie and Gary Russell had the Sandra Jean II built at Sather Boat Works in New Westminster BC.
i have a photo of her on my wall. She has her poles up as she was a troller. Her home port was Gibsons BC. She is
named after my mother and me and she is #2 as there was another Sandra Jean back east. She looks beautiful.
Thanks for taking care of her, If my Dad and brother were still here they would love to see the pictures.

WOW i am very impressed with your efforts to redo the old scow from Canada , looks like it will be home for many more years to come .Wanda and I bought a home a 140 year old Century Log Cabin on 33 acres with trails through out .We are in the middle of 500 acres of bush our closest neighbors are half mile up the road . The privacy we now have is awesome for us as being Campground hosts for many years has taken it toll on us … If u ever get a chance for a visit to Ontario , Canada please look us up by email , regards john boy
